Spider Event Zagreb, 21 – 23 November 2013

Spider Event Zagreb, or an art event and traveling art manifestation, will take place from 21 to 23 November 2013 at the Zagreb Dance Centre and the Glyptotheque of the Croatian Arts and Sciences Academy. This three-day international event, organized by de facto theatre company, is a part of the European collaboration named Spider Expand and the Culture Programme 2007-2013. Its focus is on contemporary performance arts and live art.

All selected projects explore the topic of performance arts in the context of gallery space and are set inside available spaces of the Zagreb Dance Centre and the Glyptotheque of the Croatian Arts and Sciences Academy opening the topic of the gathering in Zagreb, i.e. should contemporary dance be performed in galleries or theatres? de facto joined forces with the Glyptotheque as an institutionalized space for presenting visual art. The Glyptotheque opened its doors to an expanded understanding of contemporary art within gallery space. In that sense, we will present a host of internationally recognized dance artists and discuss new art forms, not only from the contemporary dance and theatre point of view but also in the context of visual arts where contemporary dance in Croatia has found its performative and institutional framework as well as creative potential.

The Spider Event exhibition will showcase works by Croatian artist in correlation with the performance and visual arts expression. The concept of the exhibition plays with inversed understanding of the role of a performing space, analyses the performer’s relation with their interpretation, and refers to (non) definition of movement in the field of dance discourse.

The SPIDER EXPAND! project, as one of the main components of Spider Events in different cities, intends to mobilize dancers, culture workers and performers. Through dance residences, presentations of performances and international art projects, debates, meetings and a series of Events organized in Athens, Berlin, Brussels, Ljubljana, Lyon and Zagreb, the project investigates new methods of networking with local and international community and stimulates artistic creation, exchange of knowledge and experience, workshops, performances, presentations of work-in-progress and intensified collaboration of all artists involved in the project. Spider Expand is made of: Kink Kong/Pekinpah (Ljubljana), Colectiff Loge 22 (Lyon), de facto (Zagreb), DansCentrumJette (Brussels), DAN.C.CE/Dance Cultural Centre (Athens) and LaborGras (Berlin).
