Dance week festival Zagreb presents Supernatural by Simone Aughterlony

Supernatural

Following the premiere in New York in January 2015 and performances in Zurich, Berlin, and Munich, the new collaboration of Simone Aughterlony and Saša Božić closes this year’s edition of Dance Week Festival. Supernatural is the third collaboration of Saša Božić and Simone Aughterlony, and it was co-produced by prestigious European theaters Hebbel am Ufer from Berlin and Gessnerallee from Zurich. Zagreb audience is not familiar with the work of this influential choreographer, former star dancer of the Meg Stuart company. On stage with Simone Aughterlony are dancer Antonija Livingstone and New York musician Hahn Rowe, known for his cooperation with bands R.E.M. and Anthony and the Johnsons, and musicians such as Moby or David Byrne. After Zagreb, Supernatural continues its tour in Vienna, Bergen, Amsterdam, and Geneva.
In Supernatural performance, human and non-human actants spend the night together on a hot pink carpet under the fluorescent sky, around the campfire. By observing Supernatural, we have the opportunity to get to know the joint kaleidoscopic body. Together with axes, wood, a violin, electronics, and bare bodies, Simone Aughterlony, Antonija Livingstone, and Hahn Rowe distort the idea of perception of gender and accept a cheerful techno structure of ambiguous bodies and pleasures.
The performance of Supernatural is scheduled for June 20 at 9:30 PM in the premises of the Zagreb Dance Center as the last performance of this year’s Dance Week Festival.
