Born to Please is the first production that de facto realized in the framework of the project titled On Entertainment. Born to Please is a theatre performance for the three very different performers: Nataša Dangubić, Ivana Krizmanović, Jerko Marčić and Marko Jastrevski, who experiment with to them unknown genre, i.e. singing. The crucial motifs for this work comprise memory and biography as well as various pop culture happenings. Born to Please implies a series of solo performances during which actors, who are not professional musicians, try to please the audience with their interpretations of popular hits from the history of pop music. The aim is to objectively reconstruct the selected songs popular in the period from the 1960s to 1990s, as far as this is possible in every field of such reconstruction (costume and stage design, music, singing, presentation). The accent is put on comic elements and not on the cynical aspect of imitation as a form. Born to Please is entertaining (both for itself and the audience) because it raises the question whether a solo performer encountered with the audience actually can express and represent the excitement inherent to grand, spectacular international events involving the very idea of superlatives associated with fun and entertainment (Eurovision, San Remo, MTV Music Awards, Melodies of the Adriatic). Which affective relationship develops between a performer and a spectator in this titanic effort to stage what cannot be staged: luxury and concert production, something that contemporary research theatre simply cannot afford.
