Project Wheel 2.0 is a continuation of the research of folklore heritage within contemporary social frameworks but also artistic and performance possibilities. The project involves contemporary dancers, actors, professional folk dancers and visual artists. After the performance of Wheel which was presented in 2019, Wheel 2.0 expands the reception of the piece by translating it into a digital medium; and plays with the idea of digitization in a way that is uncommon in dance or theater performance.

We opted for the stop animation technique because of the incredible ability to manipulate a static image – a moment which, by repetition and sequence, becomes movement, that is, it offers spaces that become time in the eye of the beholder.

The opposition of tradition and modernity was further helped by the choice of space that in this work marks the privacy of one’s home, in a time of utter forced intimacy. Private space proposes various expositions of the everyday through the motives of folklore movements and gestures; an intersection of all that binds the part that belongs to society and the part that belongs only to us. Ultimately stop animation creates the impression of a Gif which is a means of many of the identity constructions we have on social networks and as a technology fits perfectly into the very concept of subversion of the idea of tradition and traditional identities.
